MCALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY LESSONS

We had Robotics Clinics at the Mcallen Public Library where we taught a variety of small lessons open to all who came and wanted to learn a little about STEM. The lessons varied from them creating small paper rockets to showing them how drive trains work.

BUILD YOUR OWN ROBOTS

05.03.2019

This lesson was simple and fun. Before we arrived we had members gather scrap cardboard that students could use to design their cardboard bot to withstand a stack of books roughly weighing 20lbs. We gave the students tips on shapes to aid in the challenge, but for the most part, we set a 30min timer and just gave them the freedom of their imagination.

STRING HAND

06.14.2019

We had the idea of having the students work on a short crafts assignment as we demonstrated the physics properties behind this mini-project. We would lead students step by step as we demonstrated how the mechanics/hydraulics of the hand-made gripping system worked. Also to add a bit of pizzazz, we gave them the materials to make it their own, different colors, tape, and an assortment of string.

SLINGSHOT LESSON

06.14.2019

This session we had a simple lesson meant to allow the teens to have both fun and a great learning opportunity. Many came and had a great experience, became introduced into high school robotics, and most importantly had a great time.

CODE BOTS

06.14.2019

This lesson we decided to bring simple premade drive trains to introduce simple block code and FIRST®️ as a whole with its easy to grasp concepts, their mechanics, and how fun and exciting it can be to create even simple robots. We had our main coder lead the attendees in block coding with the built-in java with the FIRST®️ Inspires APK showing them the basic fundamentals of code and how they flow throughout the opMode. An APK is an application file, basically, whenever you download an app on your phone, you’re downloading an APK.

 CADING LESSON

10.06.2019

Learning Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is definitely a challenge so when we developed this lesson, we wanted to introduce a younger generation to the beauty of design and its applicable uses. From kids to teens we lead them through a broad overview of ways we used CAD in our robotics season. From this, we continued to teach them tinkercad and how it is a good basis for those interested in the STEM field.

BRIDGES LESSON

01.12.2020

Library lesson with Impulse at the McAllen Public Library (MPL). We introduced tension and bridge mechanics to our participants and prepared an interactive demonstration, giving them access to experiment and experience the relations of theoretical engineering to the physical world. We felt this was the best way to quickly teach children advanced topics while maintaining attention and providing engaging content to children of all ages.

ROBOT DEMO

02.16.2020

This project is a great example of what I can provide. It really highlights my skills and professionalism. If you need something similar, let me know and I’ll be happy to put a personalized proposal together for you.
