STEM CONNECTIONS
MAY RAMIREZ AND DIEGO RODRIGUEZ
McHi Theatre (Award-Winning Theatre Students)
Needing help with presenting ourselves in a more memorable way for an interview, we decided to call upon experts of flashy presentation. We were fortunate to enlist the help of our award-winning theatre students May Ramirez and Diego Rodriguez to help us shake off any nerves that had to go in for the interview portion of our competition. Throughout this session, the theatre students reviewed speaking drills and played games with us to ensure we are able to confidently share our ideas throughout the robotics season.
MARIANNE DYSON
former NASA Mission Control
A few lucky team members were able to watch a Marianne Dyson presentation at our school. She spoke to us on her journey on becoming a prominent member of the first three of the five Space Shuttle missions. Following the book signing, we were able to speak to her one-on-one about her time working for NASA, especially about the importance of perseverance and pushing boundaries. Coming from a woman who overcame the adversity of being a woman in STEM, she has influenced not only girls but also minorities to pursue seemingly impossible goals.
PETE CASTILLO
Marketer
Pete Castillo was able to teach us many valuable technical ideas that we were able to easily and immediately implement to improve our team. This included a suggestion which we would ultimately follow to rework our logo, increasing legibility and recognition. Another beneficial impact he had was being able to have us agree on a few fundamental ideas we wanted our team to stand for. With these values in mind we were able to accurately represent our team and FIRSTĀ® as a whole. Many of his other insights into the world of marketing were extremely helpful and will be greatly appreciated.
VICTOR MENCHACA
FIRSTĀ®ļø
McHi alumnus Victor Menchaca assisted us in our journey helping us by giving us advice when we presented in front of him in a mock interview. Having much experience here in FIRSTĀ®ļø he gave us pointers on how to present ourselves to the judges with little tidbits of advice here and there. Being a part of robotics here at McHi we were inspired by his competition prowess being known as one of the best at what he does. We feel very lucky to have been able to have his guidance.
ROBO STALLIONS
Morris Middle School
A pack of Re-Paw personnel went over to assist middle school students in their notebook design and conducted mock interviews. It was an extraordinary experience to see how we could enhance our interview techniques, and develop skills in one of the middle schools that feed into our program.
RICKY SANCHEZ
Manufacturing Engineer, UTRGV
Ricky Sanchez, a McHi Alumnus, examined our robot and answered questions about college life as he is currently attending UTRGV. He told us about his struggle finding his passion as he told us he switched through over a three-degree path.
CESAR RANDA
Electrical Engineer
Mr. Randa is an assembly line specialist for ALPS Automotive. He has climbed his way up the ranks to be one of the lead engineers on the assembly line project he works on stationed in Mexico.
JAIME ESPINOZA
Graphic Designer
Few of our members thanked Jaime Espinoza, Graphic Designer,Ā for making our new logo. And giving us some advice on making coasters, business cards and possibly banners for our team in the near future.
